Welcome to Lex in the City

I’m Lex and "the city" is London, however, I’m not actually in it…

Hello to the readers I personally know and hello to anyone I don’t. Those who have happened to stumble upon my blog and give it a read, welcome, and thank you.

My name is Alexa but I have now started using my childhood nickname when introducing myself to people. Since the release of the Amazon Echo, the name Alexa doesn’t have the same connotations it used to. Fun little fact: those Amazon Alexa references aren’t funny, they don’t make good pick-up lines, and I would really appreciate it if Amazon would just stop using my name entirely. But I digress.

I’m a 22-year-old who is nearly out of university and still trying to find my footing following the marathon I just ran (my undergrad). While I’m largely relieved to be free of it, I’m also terrified of what’s to come. The lack of structure, routine, and inability to know what the next chapter will bring isn’t the most comforting feeling.

I’m starting this blog during a pandemic. Yes, THE pandemic that has literally swept the nation and has now guaranteed a lengthy and complicated addition to future history textbooks. I’ve always wanted a blog. I started one when I was in high school which didn’t last long. I was recently part of my university’s all-female blog for a year and loved it and thought that passion could relay here.

This blog will be many things but in short, it will be a collection of things I love or don’t necessarily love all that much. In no particular order; beauty, books, travel, food (although I’m not very good in the kitchen), entertainment, and lifestyle. Essentially it will be a cluster-f*uck of things that make me happy and things I’m passionate about.

Finally, this blog is a love letter to the city aspect of Lex in the City. I adore London, England. When I was young, there was always a pull to London in one way or another. It started with an obsession with Peter Pan, flying around Big Ben and through Hyde Park. In later years it grew into an obsession with One Direction (boy was that a time), pinpointing music video locations of London and mapping out my visit, whenever it would be. When I was fortunate enough to visit the first time in 2018, while exploring the city, tourist destinations and wandering off into quaint neighbourhoods and getting lost in the mews, there was something unexplainable about the city. Call it childish or even being naive, I have never felt so happy or so much like myself when I was there. So in saying that, this blog is dedicated to London and its magic. While I may not be there, my heart is and until I am there again… well, we’ll just have to wait and see.

xx Lex
