Today marks the one-year anniversary of me pressing the “publish” button on my blog ‘Lex in the City’. I truly can’t believe how fast time has gone this past year! I’ve published 30 blogs varying in many topics and while the majority of the posts have been pre-planned, some of my favourite ones were born out of inspiration and passion.

I created this blog as a hobby during Ontario’s first lockdown. Now that we’re well into our third lockdown with a very uncertain future looming, I continue to turn to writing as an escape from the constant reminders of the negativity in the world and the things that are stressing me out in my personal or professional life. While the past year hasn’t been all bad, there have been moments when turning to my writing has helped me immensely.

I’m truly proud of the posts I’ve published on my website. In particular, I was blown away by the love and support I received from the In Focus: Meghan Markle post I published in May. This was one of the posts that I was the most nervous to publish as I didn’t know the response I would receive from those who chose to read it. However, I was met with so much love from readers around the world. I remember the day I published it vividly. I had read over the unpublished version for what felt like the millionth time and when it came time to hit the publish button, I had my mum over my shoulder saying encouraging things while I uploaded it. I sat by my phone the entire day watching in awe as people from around the world were clicking on my blog and reading it. I had readers from Canada, England, South Africa, America, Greece, France, Spain, Brazil, and so many more. What shocked me more was the number of replies I received on my tweet promoting the blog. Not only writing, but publishing this post was such a highlight from the past year.

Without oversharing too much, Lex in the City has turned into a diary for me. Of course, there have been lighthearted posts about beauty and books, and more serious ones about the Black Lives Matter movement or the US Presidential Election, but I’ve also written about some personal things that have allowed me to grow. My 2020 Reflection: The Highs, The Lows, & Hopes for 2021 was one of my favourite pieces to write because it allowed me the opportunity to reflect on such a challenging year and appreciate the positive things that got me through it.

I would like to thank every single person who has clicked on my blog, whether it be just once or every time I published something. To anyone who has commented on a post, commented on any of my social media posts, or has reached out to me personally to talk about my blog - thank you!

Thank you to my friends and family who have been my sounding board and inspiration.

Thank you to my wonderful editor Ankanee who takes the time to make sure the words I’m writing actually make sense.

I’m so excited about what the future holds for my little website.

Cheers to another year of LITC!

xx Lex
